Al Gordon Classic (4M)
Even as recently as last year a race morning like the one I am about to describe would have sent me over the edge with runner’s anxiety. I still was way too upset over what happened yesterday but by the time I made it back to queens and showered I was ok with everything that was my race morning.
5:45 am: My alarm went off and I checked the NYRR website to make sure the race was still on....

Here's hoping I make it to Brooklyn!
So my train was held due to an injured passenger and the train conductor gave out his info and the trains info so people would not get in trouble with their bosses.
I almost cried- I love when people are so considerate! Now to hope I don’t get lost!
Side bar: I made it to Brooklyn and made a friend on the way. Race cap to follow- heads up not everyday can be a PR.

Dear glutenous food that I ate,

Why are you giving me the worst stomach ache of my life? I’m having to miss something with my sisters right now because of you. I don’t even know exactly what I ate that had gluten in it.
Leave me alone.
True! I wish people understood better! This is serious business loves!

Finding things in odd places...
I recently read an article about Kristen Bell in SELF and I was pleasantly surprised. In the article she says something to the effect if “why would I hate my body?” and then goes on to say that she has days where she calls her friends and says stupid things like “I feel ugly” and she also admits that she has a therapist to talk things out with. As a student of psychology...

I now have a 4 mile PR.
Today I ran the Gridiron 4m Classic in Central Park and I am still shocked at how smooth the day went. The boy, Charlie, and I left our apartment around 7:35 and were in Central Park at the race start by 8:15- which is way to early since he was my bag drop off. Anyway we entered the park and after some meandering found the William Shakespeare statue and had a good laugh. Charlie loves ole Billy!...

6.55 miles
I left today determined to run slower. Everywhere I read these days it speaks bout the importance of slow long recovery runs. I want to do slow long recovery runs and yet I promise you I did not feel like I was pushing it today. Maybe I have uncovered a hump, maybe I am finally getting back into shape, maybe I am going to crash and learn this weekend. I think training wise this is a well placed...
With the marathon, you don’t swing for the fences on your first try....

True. But my four mile race this Sunday I think I’ll swing for the fences.

3 Miles...
3 Miles to run out yesterday’s run…
I have high hopes for this week if only I can get out of my own way.
It is so easy to get in my own way.
Today is Monday and I am crabbier than I ever am on Tuesdays and I hate Tuesdays.
No one talks about how hard it is NOT to have a job.
There are so many things no one talks about. I think about them as I run.
Yesterday we saw a mouse in...
I have one rule when it comes to cheese.
NO CHEESE BEFORE A RUN.
A simple rule that I put in place after ruining the day of one unknown homeless man or woman. I won’t go in any details but you are smart and can imagine. Imagine the worse. Today was not as bad as the day I came up with my rule but man did my 4.5 miles hurt today. Overall, I ran just under a 9 minute pace which I am very happy about.
Tomorrow I need to buck up and...
Love on a Friday Night.
A day of rest. A day of rain. A day of Jack Johnson and a night of friends. A night to celebrate loving, forgiving and being human. Ever since I was a young girl I have loved poetry. I have piles of deep heart felt poems that have never seen the light of day. I get it- poems. I love that they say so much in the words they omit and in the words they choose.
My favorite love poems are written by...

New Shoes will make you fly.
Those first few runs in new shoes are like floating on clouds. Each step is cushioned and it makes you want to fly. That was what happened this afternoon. Here are my fancy new shoes! (Thanks for all your advice ladies!)
I ran a total of seven miles. 5 at an 8:33. As I was slowing down I almost ate it and fell off the treadmill but my super quick reaction saved my face.
In other news, I...
Over the bridge...
Last night the boy and I headed out for a simple 5 mile run but with one condition: To run over the Queensboro bridge.
I did the research and if we ran half way over the bridge we would run an even 5. Well, the act of actually finding the pedestrian entrance was slightly tricky, so I stopped to ask a traffic police women and she was SO MEAN. She acted like I had asked her what 1+1 was! I clearly...

Life happens...
Life happens when you are sitting around on a Sunday night watching the Giants game. It jumps up out of no where and rearranges your short term life plans. That is just what happened last night, we were presented with a game changer. Everything will be ok and all the peices will rearange themselves in ways that our little household will make it work but last night did make me appreciate all those...
